The founders
MG Group was co-founded by Mr. Mohan V. Kamat and Mrs. Sudha Mohan Kamatin 1980 in Belagavi, Karnataka. What began as a modest workshop grew through four decades of relentless commitment to quality, becoming one of India's most trusted names in bus and coach manufacturing.
The founders' belief in vertical integration — controlling every stage from design to delivery — became the operating principle that still defines MG Group today.
The next chapter
In 2016, Mr. Anil Mohan Kamatwas appointed Chairman & Managing Director, marking a pivotal shift. Under his leadership, MG Group transitioned from a primarily OEM-focused supplier to an independent brand manufacturer.
Today, MG proudly serves OEMs, State Transport Undertakings, fleet operators, and aggregators — powering mobility across city streets and national highways with models like Mammoth, Columbus, Starz, Dreamz, Glider, and Leera.
Four decades of building trust
The Beginning
MG Group founded in Belagavi by Mr. Mohan V. Kamat and Mrs. Sudha Mohan Kamat. Bus body building begins.
Zaheerabad Facility
MG Automotives Pvt. Ltd. established in Zaheerabad, Telangana — a 25,000 sq. m facility for Mahindra & Mahindra bus-body building.
Design & Technology
MG West & Deccan launched as the technology and design arm — concept-to-execution for structural design, ergonomics, and safety analysis.
Vertical Integration
MG Automotives (Bus & Coach) established in Belagavi — 18,000 sq. m, 3,000 economy buses and 1,800 premium coaches annually. MG Leather & Trim launched for seating.
Electronics Division
MG Grey Engine LLP founded — automotive electronics, ITS components, LED lighting, fire protection, and wiring harnesses.
Composites Manufacturing
MG Composites LLP established in Zaheerabad — FRP panels, parts, and assemblies for bus exteriors, interiors, defence, and construction.
A Landmark Year
100,000th bus body delivered. Mr. Anil Mohan Kamat appointed Chairman & Managing Director. MG transitions to independent brand manufacturing.
